Bring Wendy Home project

  • JON C. LAKEY / SALISBURY POST Richard Menius uses a nail gun to attach the new hallway door facings which have been widened. Volunteers have been working on making the home of Kelly and Wendy Hunsucker wheelchair accessible. Wendy Hunsucker, who suffers from Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy Syndrome, has been confined to a wheelchair for the last six weeks. The wheelchair would not fit through most of the doorways in their 1940's era home that they have lived in since 2008. Several Sunday School classes from First United Methodist Church in China Grove have been working getting Wendy and her family home. Thursday, August 28, 2014, in Salisbury, N.C.

Larry Wyatt and the Shaver School

  • JON C. LAKEY / SALISBURY POST Larry Wyatt has been working on turning the circa 1930's Shaver School on Stokes Ferry Road into a community building. The granite school house, which was built after the depression era has been a furniture store and home to four different taverns over the last many decades. Wyatt hopes that it will become a popular spot for anyone needing to space to hold activities such as weddings, concerts and church bazaars.

Freightliner builds 3,000,000th truck for Schneider National

Piano for public art

  • JON C. LAKEY / SALISBURY POST Jonathan and Banks Kluttz take a quick break from moving a piano down the hallway at North Rowan High School on Tuesday. The Kluttz brothers spent the day delivering several pianos to area high schools for an upcoming art project. The pianos will be decorated by art students over time. Eventually the pianos will become functional pieces of public art and will be place around the community. North Rowan High School art teachers Cheryl Savage-Mazza and Jim Janish (left) will be working with students to transform the half century old musical instrument into a functional expression of creativeness.
